What's on your heart and mind today?

First, I have a suggestion for those who can't afford full price for their DMEs (Durable Medical Equipment), talk to the vendor and find out if it's possible to get a demo model of, say a wheelchair. Also, check eBay, they often have demos and used item; Craigslist; and your local Freecycle.

Second, I am here today because I am (a) looking for a Quickie 2 wheelchair. (I'll hit eBay here in a few minutes) which is compatible with the Wijit (http://wijit.com - I can't get the link function to work, probably my computer) driving and braking system; and (b) looking for financial assistance with getting the Wijit driving and braking system. The people at Wijit indicated that they could sell me a Demo, bringing the price down by half.

The health advantages of using a Wijit as opposed to a power chair are incredible. I am eagerly wanting a healthy alternative to my power chair (I have cerebellar Ataxia.) So I am looking for any possible organizations that might help with purchase of the Wijit and the Quickie 2 wheelchair, or grants for such items.

Thanks a bunch.

 Hugs & Blessings,

 Morgan

What's on your heart and mind today?

I am waiting for a call back from the Community Action Center of Greater Indianapolis, better known as CAGI. It's said that they can help with my property tax situation. Monday I was told that the people who could help me would not be in to to office until Wednesday. So, I came home from my doctor's appointment and called straight away. Now I am waiting for a call back. If I don't hear by 1:30, I'll call them back.

That's just how you have to do it. Be positive, be persistant, and be polite with the polite with the people from whom you are asking assistance. It's easy to forget when stressed out by financial matters, but as the saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Just have to keep looking and asking. My mother always told me, "It never hurts to ask; the worst you can get is a "no" and that you have already."

About cats55

Hi I wish you the best. I am 50 years old and on SSI, $674 a month. You may want to call your local Community Action Center, LCCA is the one for your area. Also, try http://www.211us.org/ to find resources. Are you a member of a church, sometimes churches help.

The best to you.

About lady_morgan - Need help or advice desperately

I am a 49 year old disabled woman living in a mobile home on the south side of Indianapolis. My husband left me two years ago. Spring of 2008 I got my first full time job ever with AT&T. In August 2008 I broke my leg, losing my balance as a result of my disability. End of September, two weeks after coming back to work, I lost my job. After last winter, I am broke. I also owe back property taxes. And I've yet to find another job.

I get $449 a month in SSI and I get food stamps and Medicaid. I just downloaded the application for Energy Assistance  and am also interested in Weatherization Assistance, which I emailed various agencies for more information on that. And Voc. Rehab. is going to meet with me next week to see if we can get that ball rolling again.

Is there any help available for the property tax situation? I am also interested in finding out if there's any help for mobile home repairs available? I also have three cats, and I'm wanting to know if there's any help for low income pet owners for pet food assistance in the state of Indiana?

Any help, advice, or even a nudge or finger pointing in the right direction is greatly appreciated.
